Moulin Rouge Paris: Where all of cabarets began

Do you like all things bohemian? Have you often found yourself wondering about a nightclub that’s more class and old-school? Did Nicole Kidman’s 2001 movie Moulin Rouge pique your interest in the world of cabaret? Well then, there’s nothing left but a trip to Moulin Rouge Paris itself: the myth, the moment, the master.

Moulin Rouge is as old as cabarets itself– it was co-founded in 1889 by Charles Zidler and Joseph Oller, and is best known as the birthplace of the world-famous quartet– the French Cancan, a dance form symbolizing women’s liberation.

Learn more about Moulin Rouge Paris, compare ticket options, inclusions and all information you need to plan your visit to the mother of cabarets.

What to expect at a Moulin Rouge Paris show

History knows its venue best

In the southwest of Montmartre, on Boulevard de Clichy, is the historic Moulin Rouge with the iconic red windmill on its roof, a cultural hub for the wealthy bourgeois and the working class alike since the late 1800s. With an 850-seat hall, spread across multiple levels, facing the center stage, the interiors give away warm and cozy vibes decorated with a constellation of hundreds of small red glowing table lamps– the face of Parisian nightlife.

Can you French cancan?

Féerie is a revue show, consisting of a series of short sketches, songs, and dances. The show is presented across four spectacular acts that take the audience on an enchanting journey through the universe, one filled with feathers, sequins, and rhinestones. From the iconic French Cancan, reimagined with modern flair, to a variety of artistic expressions, the Féerie Revue transports audiences into a magical realm of color and creativity.

Door of the Doriss Girls

Named after the famous choreographer Doris Haung, the Dorris Girls are a group of talented and passionate dancers at the heart of every show at the Moulin Rouge. After the first 1.5 hours, the Doriss girls take to the stage in their frilly dresses and feathered headgear to delight the audience with their stunning performance of the French Cancan dance. Did you know the Moulin Rouge holds world records for the most leg lifts behind the head (30 in 30 seconds) and the most French Cancan 'ronds de jambe' (29 in 30 seconds)?

The art and the artists

The backstage magic of the Moulin Rouge comes alive as the clock strikes 7pm. A dedicated team transforms artists with over 1000 bespoke costumes and 500 pairs of shoes for the Féerie show. Legendary performers like La Goulue, Joséphine Baker, and Jane Avril, along with iconic singers such as Édith Piaf and Liza Minnelli, have graced this stage, solidifying the Moulin Rouge's place in entertainment history.

Our guests love Moulin Rouge, so should you

Things to know before booking your tickets
